Gainesville, FL – Mark Gaignard, a long-time Gainesville resident, graduate of the Gainesville Chamber’s Leadership Gainesville 35, and local musician, had a unique idea to implement on Valentine’s Day a couple of years ago. While putting together a Valentine’s Day song list for a performance, he realized not everyone has someone to celebrate with on Valentine’s Day. He wanted to cater to everyone attending his show, so he threw a few anti-love songs in the mix.
Before he knew it, his great idea turned into a big hit for other bands as well; thus, the annual Heartbreakers Ball was born. After last year’s event Gaignard knew he created something worthwhile. He wanted to use the success of last year’s Heartbreakers’ Ball to give back to the Gainesville community once again. “That’s when I thought about the Nonprofit Center. If we could raise some money for these guys, their efforts would have a much further reach”, said Gaignard. Chris McCarty, another local musician performing this Thursday night added, “We believe in the Nonprofit Center’s mission of providing resources to other nonprofits in Gainesville”.
Opening up the Heartbreakers Ball will be The Barstool Prophets, who headlined the 4th of July festivities at the Bandshell. Chris McCarty will then perform followed by Gaignard and The Pre Nups to end the show. The bands will be performing songs like “Crazy” by Patsy Cline, “Heartbreaker Hotel” by Elvis and “Love Stinks” by the J. Gelis Band. “We’ve been having a great time getting the material together,” said Gaignard. “We have some funny surprises in store for the crowd.”
When asked if only those without a Valentine or with a broken heart should attend, the bands insisted this will be a fun show for everyone, even those couples in love. “Everyone can relate to these songs, plus by attending you will be doing something great for the nonprofit community by helping support the Nonprofit Center”, says Gaignard.
Chris Johnson, executive director for the Nonprofit Center replied, “We are honored Mark Gaignard selected our organization as the beneficiary for his 2nd Annual Heartbreaker’s Ball. We certainly admire Mr. Gaignard’s passion for community and putting others before himself. He has put together a good lineup and we are looking forward to a great night of music.”
The Heartbreakers’ Ball will take place this Thursday, February 14th, on Valentine’s Day. The show will be located at the High Dive in downtown Gainesville and will start at 9 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $8.00.
